Artist's Comments

The Bon Secours church is right next to the Bon Secours market in Old Montreal. One enters the church by the side door, walk along a long corridor and find oneself confronted by the Bon Secours nuns. "No sister, I don't want to visit the Bon Secours museum, I want to go up in the church tower!" I paid the fees and soon found myself walking over what I thought were flimsy catwalks. A touch of vertigo! I breathed slowly and regain a modicum of control. When I finally reached the bell tower, the scene was so beautiful that all sensation of physical threat disappeared. I shot quite a few pictures but this one is my favourite!

The photograph somehow instantly reminded me of Hitchcock. In fact it reminded me of the opening shot in "Rope" where if I remember correctly we look down on a street and see Alfred Hitchcock walk along the street in his cameo. This was before I had read the description where you mention the fact this shot was taken from a church tower which reminded of Hitchcock's "Vertigo".
