My good friend Jacques-Gabriel Bastien seemed to belong to another world, one where common mortals were not privy. He seemed bigger than life and yet he was reserved. I was using a wooden 4 X 5 japanese made field camera. The camera was ready, the focus and exposure already set, the lens armed. I waited. We talked of everything; history, music, the arts etc. Gradually he warmed up and completely forgot the camera. I clicked.

Daily DeviationThe suggester writes, Jacques-Gabriel Bastien is "a portrait of a man who, as ~PhilipLim said, seems to be from a different time, knowing a different world and ways from what we live now." (Suggested by =MyPrivateParty and Featured by ^rhapsouldize)

Very nice indeed. You really captured a moment with this shot. He seems like he is from the 1800's or some other time period. :+fav:

I literally can not get enough. It is impossible to say "a glance over this photo", as the eyes must stay on this face until one explores every curve, every touch of time, every minor detail.
The approach was strategic - completely forgot the camera. I clicked. A story behind a photo that could bear in our minds many other stories, real or imaginative. His is the face that tells of adventures, perhaps not those adventures that are so often thrown in our faces by the contemporary subculture, but of the greatest adventure of all - Life.

I would love to have participated in the discussion, by the way. Music, history, art...all play a major part in my life.

Not only the portrait is awesome, but the story behind is interesting, too! The lighting is great, his expression is really intense and the whole setup is great!
