À force de conversation, il oubliait peu à peu qu'il y avait un appareil photographique braqué sur lui. Et il se révèla! C'était le moment que j'attendais pour déclencher!

My good friend Jacques-Gabriel Bastien seemed to belong to another world, one where common mortals were not privy. He seemed bigger than life and yet he was reserved. I was using a wooden 4 X 5 japanese made field camera. The camera was ready, the focus and exposure already set, the lens armed. I waited. We talked of everything; history, music, the arts etc. Gradually he warmed up and completely forgot the camera. I clicked.
